Doe Deere is known as the unicorn queen because she loves the color. She dons bright clothes, hair, and makeup always. Deere is the founder of Poppy Angelof and Lime Crime. She moved to the US when she was 17 years old with her sister and mother. They did not have a place to go and ended up staying in a homeless shelter for two years. Life was difficult, and they relied on well-wishers to survive.
Before marrying her husband Marc Dumbleton, they were in a rock band. She had a fashion line that sold clothes on eBay. Since she did not have money to hire models, she was the model. Every time she posted photos online, people commented about her makeup. She used to sew clothes and sell them online. Clients wanted to know more about the makeup, and this pushed her to create Lime Crime.
Deere could not direct customers where to buy products because they were hard to find. She realized that she was not the only that loved color. She switched from selling clothes to creating fun and colorful makeups. She showed young girls that it is okay to experiment with color. Initially, she was afraid of rejection and doubted whether people would buy her products. She overcame the fear by doing what she does best-playing with color. Lime Crime is known for making colorful and trendy clothes.
Furthermore, the brand uses safe ingredients to protect customers. Lime Crime is cruelty-free and vegan. Doe Deere started Lime Crime with no connection in the industry. She was deterred by the fact that she did not know anyone. She operated the company with her husband for ten years before selling it. She advises entrepreneurs to appreciate their audience and know what customers want. It is futile producing products customers dislike because you will get poor sales.
